LUMDING: The vigilance department carried out a raid on the office of the Lumding Railway Divisional officer. The operation was carried out in the Personnel Department section of the office.

One officer of the Indian railways was reportedly arrested after being caught red-handed for accepting a bribe during this operation. The identity of the accused was mentioned to be Pabitra Konwar, who was employed as the Superintendent of the Personnel Department. The officials of the vigilance department had reportedly received complaints regarding the person and planned to catch him red-handed while committing the crime.

A case was registered against the accused and an investigation has been initiated regarding the matter. According to members of the office, he had very limited time left for his retirement. And that proper action will be initiated against him after the details are revealed in the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam has made significant strides in combating corruption by apprehending two Lat Mandals involved in separate bribery incidents. One of the arrested individuals is Jalaluddin Sheikh from Bhuragaon Revenue Circle in Morigaon, while the other is Diganta Baruah from Nazira Revenue Circle in Sivasagar. When he took a bribe of Rs 20,000, Jalaluddin Sheikh was caught in the act at his home. The goal of the bribe was to hasten the issue of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a brick kiln. In response to the accusation, the authorities launched a quick operation and caught Sheikh in the act.

Diganta Baruah was busted for receiving a bribe in another investigation by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. Baruah, a Lat Mandal from the Nazira Revenue Circle, was in charge of issuing land-holding number certificates and tracing maps. As soon as he took the money from the complaint, he was immediately taken into custody.
